Not the biggest, nor the most crowded, nor the most famous, but Garraf Beach has something that captivates everyone who visits: the so-called Casetes del Garraf (beach huts). In this article, we explain what they are, where they are, and what their main features are. A place you can reach by car in just a few minutes from Hotel Calipolis.

Where are Les Casetes del Garraf and what are they like?

Les Casetes del Garraf are located in the municipality of Garraf, administratively dependent on the Ajuntament de Sitges. It is a small population center located northeast of the city, at the foot of the picturesque C-31 road, almost reaching the neighboring Castelldefels. In reality, these little houses were gradually and almost spontaneously formed in the early 20th century. According to some, initially, they were small wooden constructions where fishermen kept their fishing tools. According to others, they were small shelters built by the inhabitants of this small village to seek shade from the sun on their bathing days. Regardless of which version is correct, the fact is that they evolved into what they are now: small wooden or imitation huts, in green color and of humble appearance, although their exteriors are perfectly preserved, and their interiors are completely renovated for use. An evolution that has not been without incidents and surprises, as they suffered damage during the Civil War or storms in the area, highlighting the fragility of these constructions in their early days. Currently, there are 33 of them, and despite the difficulty of visiting them, they are declared of tourist interest. The characteristic image with the green hills of Garraf and the dark green of the huts, as well as the blue of the sea and sky or the golden color of the fine sand, is a beautiful attraction for all kinds of visitors. The length of the beach is relatively short: 380 meters, and its average width is 28 meters, making it actually a small bathing area to visit as an excursion. The beach has fine sand, with a gentle slope towards the sea.

It is sandwiched between coves on either side, as well as the train tracks that pass a few meters from the beach inland. Also, from Les Casetes del Garraf, you can see the breakwater of the marina of this town and the masts of the sailboats moored here. In this port is the Club Nautic Garraf, with services not only for its members but also for visitors in general. Due to its beauty and originality, Les Casetes del Garraf have served as a setting for filming movies or television scenes. And even today, it can be the perfect backdrop for any recording, both on the beach and inside the little houses, a subject that must be managed with the association that brings together the owners of these constructions, as well as other interested parties. Regarding the services available near Les Casetes del Garraf, it is worth noting a lifeguard station, umbrellas and hammocks for those who request them, recreational boats such as kayaks and water skates. Additionally, it is adapted for people with reduced mobility, especially due to its wheelchair-accessible ramp. And of course, there are two beach bars where you can have a drink or eat just a few meters from the beach.

Other Sitges beaches

If you stay at Hotel Calipolis, you can take a trip to Les Casetes del Garraf to discover the charm of this row of constructions by the sea. However, there are other beaches that, for different reasons, can also be very interesting. Similar in profile are those located to the east, such as Cala Ginesta or Cala Morisca, although the neighboring beach of Les Botigues is precisely the largest in all of Sitges. For convenience and spaciousness, you will choose the Central beaches, such as Estanyol, Balmins, Ribera, or Terramar. And of course, Bassa Rodona, which is located right in front of Hotel Calipolis. But to feel like a true Sitges local, the best choices are La Fragata and Sant Sebastiá: they are located on both sides of the city's great symbol, the church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla. Whether you prefer Les Casetes del Garraf or the lively life of the center, Hotel Calipolis awaits you at any time of the year and with all the services you need during your vacation, including two restaurants. Book your room now and treat yourself to a getaway to one of the favorite destinations in the province of Barcelona!
