Sitges Rally
The Rally is a classic event that is fun and enjoyable, and also unique in the world. The Barcelona-Sitges International Vintage Car Rally is the biggest event for historic cars in the south of Europe, and the second oldest in the world after the London-Brighton Rally, boasting over 50 years of tradition and history.
The stars of this celebration are, without a doubt, the cars, all of them made between 1903 and 1924, as well as their escorts, elegantly dressed in period costume according to their car. The participating vehicles are classified into two categories: Epoch, vehicles built before 1920, and Vintage, built between 1909 and 1924.
The rally starts at Barcelona’s Plaza del Ayuntamiento on Sunday at around 11 a.m.; covering almost 40 kilometers, the participants will drive along the Garraf coastline to the Sitges Promenade, where the first cars will arrive around 1 pm. There they will remain on display until approximately 6 pm.
The rally prizes are awarded in the afternoon, where not only the speed of the first place is rewarded, but also the best five cars from each section according to the following criteria: presentation, age, maintenance, and originality, as well as the best dressed participants according to the period in time they represent.
The official closing is on Monday when the participants visit the legendary, but not operating, 1923 racetrack of the Terramar-Sitges Circuit; the 2 kilometer-long and 20 meter-wide track was the first permanent circuit built in Spain that was separate from the road network.
