How to get from Barcelona to Sitges
Most of the visitors to Sitges come from Barcelona, they are residents in the Catalan capital coming to spend the day, or national and international tourists that incorporate a visit to the Vila as part of the tour of the province. Driving from Barcelona to Sitges
The quickest way to get to Sitges from Barcelona is by car. The distance between the two cities is less than 40 km and they are connected by two roads: A toll highway and a conventional road. The toll highway is the C-32, which is the extension of the urban motorway B -20 and which can be joined from many parts of the city, as for example from the end of the Avinguda Diagonal.
To reach Sitges, drive straight away for about 35 minutes and take exit 30, then drive through Passeig de Vilafranca, Passeig de Vilanova and Avinguda Sofia to access the Hotel Calipolis.
The price of this section toll from Barcelona to Sitges is 6.55 € for cars (cash and credit cards are accepted).
Those who prefer to avoid tolls can use the conventional highway C-31, although some sections of the road are one lane for each direction. These are the basic instructions for this route, which takes about 40-45 minutes:
– Exit from Avinguda Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, for example from the Plaça d’ Ildefons Cerdà to the south.
– Continue straight ahead, without detours, to Castelldefels for about 20 km. In this point join the C -32.
– After 3 km, take the exit for the C -31, where a stretch of about 15 km starts along the cliffs of the Garraf, a coastal road with many curves but with privileged views over the sea and the natural massif.
– The first entrance to Sitges is on the west, so those who want to go to the Hotel Calipolis should continue the C -32 for another kilometer, take exit 30 and follow the above directions.
How to get from Barcelona to Sitges by train
Another option to make the route from Barcelona to Sitges is by train. The easiest and quickest option is the Line R2-South. These trains run approximately every fifteen minutes. The journey lasts 50 minutes from Estacio de França and stops at the main stations of the city like Passeig de Gracia or Sants.
One way ticket is 4,10€. The first train to Sitges leaves at 5.30 am, arriving at its destination at 6.21am. The latest one leaves at 23.51PM and reaches Sitges at 00.42pm. On weekends and bank holidays, the service does not suffer too many modifications.
How to get from Barcelona to Sitges by bus
The bus is another way to go from Barcelona to Sitges by public transport. This service is run by a bus company called Monbus. Buses leave from Plaza Espanya and Ronda Universitat during the day. The journey takes 50 minutes; the buses go via Barcelona airport (El Prat de Llobregat).
The price of the ticket is 4€ and runs every 30 minutes during the day. The first bus departs at 7.00am and the last at 23.20pm. On weekends, the frequency decreases to one bus every hour.
Other means of transport for this route are the rental car and taxi. In the first case, you can pick up and return the car in Barcelona or Sitges in the major rent-a-car companies. Regarding the taxi, it is the more expensive option but it is always available. The price depends on the day, time/hour and traffic… The regular price is around 50€-60€.
